Even though he has been released and has made the playoffs only once in his NFL career, playing horrendously in the one game he appeared in as well, I am still a believer in Kyler Murray as a franchise caliber QB. In my estimation the only QB in the NFL who is definitively more talented than Kyler Murray is Lamar Jackson. That should not come as an insult either as Lamar Jackson is arguably the most physically gifted QB in NFL history. Kyler Murray also possesses some physical traits that are better than Jackson has as well. I believe Kyler Murray is the fastest QB in the NFL and perhaps the fastest QB in league history, even faster than Lamar Jackson. I believe Murray has a stronger arm than Lamar Jackson and Murray was also a far more natural thrower of the football entering the NFL than Jackson was as well. Murray will still only be 29 years old entering this upcoming NFL season and absolutely still has star potential in him that could be brought out in the right circumstances.
- Vikings
The Vikings are the one team in the NFL that is truly a QB away and Kyler Murray could certainly live up to his potential with Minnesota. The Vikings the last time they had a strong QB in place in the name of Sam Darnold went 14-3. The argument for Kevin O’Connell and Brian Flores as perhaps the premier head coach + coordinator combination in the NFC right now is a very strong argument to be made. Although the perception of O’Connell has certainly waned after the failed Vikings’ season in 2025, I still believe O’Connell has what it takes to be a very good if not a great offensive minded head coach. Murray and O’Connell both have star potential but have both underwhelmed in recent memory and both could bring out the best in each other if they were to be paired.
- Saints
The Saints since the departure of hall of famer Drew Brees have struggled to get the QB spot correct and may now have the chance to get it right in onboarding Murray. Saints head coach Kellen Moore clearly has a very strong offensive mind, given the Eagles’ drastic offensive drop off they saw after his departure, along with Moore making high 2nd round pick rookie Tyler Shough look very strong even as a rookie with marginal talent. Head coach Kellen Moore as a former undersized QB could relate to Murray and get the best out of him as a result. The Saints have good offensive personnel, a young bright offensive minded head coach, and have been needing a franchise QB for years. New Orleans is certainly a franchise I could imagine Murray going into and coming into his own with.
- Steelers
The Steelers have been in no mans land in the NFL for the past several seasons in large part because they have had stop gap QBs. The Steelers after onboarding Mike McCarthy are in the market for a QB and despite his shortcomings as a head coach, one cannot dispute that McCarthy understands offense and quarterbacks quite well, arguably as well as anyone ever. The Steelers have a strong if not a very strong offensive line and a star wide out in D.K Metcalf and could add more strong players this offseason. Murray with the QB whisperer in McCarthy who certainly could be argued as an elite offensive coach, could potentially thrive. The Steelers despite the departure of Tomlin as head coach will still likely field at least a solid defense. If Aaron Rodgers were to not return to the team, then onboarding Murray could be an ideal fit for both Murray and the Steelers.
- Falcons
The Falcons, although they have a young talented QB in Michael Penix Jr on the roster, may need a QB before the start of next season. Penix Jr has struggled to stay healthy in the NFL thus far with his health being a huge concern before entering the league as well. Atlanta’s offensive personnel is borderline elite and they have just hired a 2-time head coach of the year with an offensive background as well in Kevin Stefanski. On the offensive side of things, the Falcons seem to have almost everything in place except the QB and could be the perfect landing spot for a guy like Murray to thrive in. At the very least bringing in Murray to compete for the starting job with Penix Jr could be a very healthy thing for Atlanta and both quarterbacks.
- Browns
Although the Browns have three other capable QBs on their roster, in Deshaun Watson, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders, onboarding Murray could still be a very smart choice. As of now one would certainly have to say that Murray is still better than any of those 3 players. Despite going 5-12 last season, the Browns are in win now mode. Cleveland had one of the premier defenses in the NFL this past season and it is very possible if not likely that they will field a similar caliber defense next season. They have some talent on the offensive side of things and could certainly add to it this offseason. They have hired an offensive wizard in former Ravens’ offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their head coach. If the Browns hit on hiring their new coaching staff this offseason, in bringing on a new rookie head coach and two new rookie coordinators, Cleveland could be a very interesting team to watch next season that could make the playoffs if not do more than that. However, for that to occur then they will need to get solid QB play at the very least and although they have some QB talent on their roster currently, Murray could be the best option to make that happen for them. Additionally, the Browns have onboarded the former Ravens’ offensive coordinator and the former Ravens’ run game coordinator as their new head coach and offensive coordinator respectively. Both of those individuals worked with and got the most out of Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. Murray is a QB talent who is very similar to Jackson for aforementioned reasons and could thrive working with that new Browns’ offensive coaching staff.
- Dolphins
Although the Dolphins seem to be in rebuilding mode heading into next season with Murray approaching thirty years old who is in a win now mode, the proposition of Murray going to a QB needy team is still an intriguing one. Dolphins’ running back De’Von Achane is one of the fastest running backs in the NFL and Dolphins’ wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is one of the fastest wide receivers in the NFL as well. With Murray, as stated previously, being perhaps the fastest QB in football history, the speed that the Dolphins would be able to generate on offense would be perhaps unmatched. The Dolphins with new defensive minded head coach Jeff Hafley are seeking a defensive identity and getting a dual threat QB in Murray to help form the identity of running the ball, controlling the clock, and playing strong defense could be interesting.
- Jets
The Jets seem to be perhaps the weakest franchise in the NFL right now with of course much if not most of their dysfunction stemming from the QB spot. They did not have a surefire starter on their roster this past season and Murray could come in there and stabilize things. Running back Breece Hall, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, and new offensive coordinator Frank Reich provide at least some juice on the offensive side of things for Murray to work with.
- Colts
The Colts, although Daniel Jones will likely be their starting QB come opening week of the 2026 season after placing the transition tag on him, still could be looking for a QB if Jones were to somehow leave the team. The Colts with Anthony Richardson now seeking a trade, and Daniel Jones, not guaranteed to be on the team heading into next season, could be in the QB market. The Colts have perhaps the strongest overall roster in the AFC with elite caliber offensive personnel and at the very least a solid offensive minded head coach. Kyler Murray could certainly fulfill his star potential and live up to his high draft billing playing for the Colts just as Daniel Jones did this past season.
Honorable Mentions
The below teams seem to be content with the current QBs they have starting for them, but in my estimation, bringing on Murray to at least compete for a starting job could ultimately prove to be a wise move. As Murray I think is just as talented if not more talented than any of the starting QBs that these below teams have. With all of the below starting quarterbacks having big question marks associated with them as of now as well.
- Broncos
- 49ers
- Titans
- Eagles
- Panthers
- Giants
- Bucs
