The Green Bay Packers during the 2024 season were always in my eyes the epitome of a good but not a great team. I felt as if they had a good but not a great coach, a good but not a great defense, a good but not a great offense, and a very good but not a great QB. Their 11-6 finish and #7 seed entering the playoffs to go along with a quick playoff exit was further proof of their good but not great nature. Here I will go into detail examining if the Packers can buck that trend headed into next season on the offensive side of the ball. Beginning my assessment of Green Bay on offense heading into next season, I will first examine the Packers on the offensive side of the ball last season. Below you can find the Packers’ key offensive metrics over the course of the 2024 season.
2024 Major Packers Offensive Metrics
8th in points per game
5th in yards per game
8th in overall offense grade according to Pro Football Focus
As you can see from the above the Packers were very stout offensively this past season. However, the good but not great nature of their offensive attack shows in that they were a top 5-10 offense by any metric but not a definitive top 5 offense. This was starting QB Jordan Love’s 2nd full season working with offensive minded head coach Matt LaFleur. Likewise, it was offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich’s 2nd full season working with those two on the Green Bay offensive coaching staff as well. All three of those individuals have been retained by the Green Bay front office headed into next season. So, the improvements that the Packers are hoping to see on the offensive side of the ball will likely not stem from a change in the QB position and/or the offensive coaching staff. However, Green Bay has hired a new quarterbacks coach in early 2025 right after the season ended in Sean Mannion. After previous quarterbacks coach Tom Clements retired from the NFL. Perhaps Mannion can give the Packers some juice from an offensive coaching standpoint to take the offense to the next level. Outside of Jordan Love and Malik Willis at QB along with the offensive coaching staff, the improvements that Green Bay can hope to see on offense will stem from the personnel they field around the QB spot as well. I have conducted an analysis of Green Bay’s offensive personnel during the 2024 season and also headed into the 2025 season which can be found below. I have included the offense grade that the player was assigned by Pro Football Focus over the course of the 2024 season. In addition to it I have provided my own subjective grade of the player that indicates how strong I feel they are in totality outside of just the 2024 season. Beginning below with the offensive line of the team during the 2024 season and headed into the 2025 season as well.
2024 Packers Starting Offensive Line
LT – Rasheed Walker – (43/87) offense grade in 2024 over 1073 snaps, C to C+
LG – Elgton Jenkins – (32/83) offense grade in 2024 over 1069 snaps, B+
C – Josh Myers – (38/43) offense grade in 2024 over 1006 snaps, C to C+
RG – Sean Rhyan – (50/83) offense grade in 2024 over 961 snaps, C
RT – Zach Tom – (4/87) offense grade in 2024 over 1068 snaps, A-

G – Travis Glover – (55/136) offense grade in 2024 over 13 snaps, B- so far as ’24 6th rd
T – Andre Dillard – (35/140) offense grade in 2024 over 13 snaps, C to C+
2024 Packers Key Offensive Line Metrics
3rd in pass blocking grade according to Pro Football Focus
22nd in run blocking grade according to Pro Football Focus
11th in pass blocking efficiency
2nd in sacks allowed
As you can see from this final set of data and also the personnel that I listed of the team, Green Bay had a solid but not a spectacular offensive line this past 2024 season. Elgton Jenkins at guard and Zach Tom at tackle were star caliber players for the Packers up front this past season. However, the remaining starters left much to be desired and are all likely better suited as reserves instead of starters. The team’s top 3 ranking in both pass blocking grade and sacks allowed is indicative of strong offensive line play but is perhaps a bit misleading as well. Tom and Jenkins are both amongst the premier starters at their positions and the remaining three starters were still solid. However, the Packers in totality were closer to an average pass protection unit and their elite ranking in those two pass protection metrics can certainly be attributed to the following. Jordan Love’s mobility in evading many sacks and pressures along with him getting rid of the ball quickly knowing he does not have great protection. The Green Bay offensive line in all reality being closer to an average pass protection unit is evidenced by their #11 ranking in terms of pass blocking efficiency. Pass blocking efficiency is a measure of pressures allowed on a per snap basis with weighting towards sacks. The fact that the Packers ranked only 11th in that metric despite allowing the 2nd fewest sacks is indicative of an average caliber pass protection unit. The high ranking that Green Bay had in two of the pass protection metrics can also be attributed to the offensive line staying unusually healthy. Four of the five starters played 1000+ snaps with the remaining starter playing over 950 snaps. Green Bay had perhaps the healthiest offensive line in the NFL this past season which certainly contributed to their elite ranking in a few of the metrics.
The Packers also graded as a bottom ten run blocking unit according to Pro Football Focus this past season. Despite a few of the elite standings in the final metrics, Green Bay was a slightly above average pass protection unit and a below average run blocking unit over the course of the 2024 season. In totality the Packers were an average offensive line over the course of this past 2024 season. Headed into next season, Green Bay projects to be mostly the same up front but is optimistic to see some improvements with some minor personnel adjustments along with the potential improvement of some young players. The projected 2025 Green Bay Packers’ offensive line can be found below.
Projected 2025 Packers Starting Offensive Line
LT – Rasheed Walker – C to C+
LG – Aaron Banks – C+ to B-
C – Elgton Jenkins – B+
RG – Sean Rhyan – C
RT – Zach Tom – A-
Projected 2025 Packers Reserve Offensive Linemen
T – Anthony Belton – 2025 2nd round pick
G – Donovan Jennings – UDFA 2024, 0 career snaps
G – Jacob Monk – 2024 5th round pick
G/T – Jordan Morgan – C so far as 2024 1st round pick
T – Brant Banks – UDFA 2025
T – John Williams – 2025 7th round pick
G – Kadeem Telfort – C
G – Trey Hill – C-
G – Travis Glover – C in very limited snaps as 2024 6th round pick
As you can see from the above the only change to the starting lineup is the addition of Aaron Banks this offseason who is slated to start at guard. Banks is currently projected to start at left guard and Elgton Jenkins, who was a standout starting at left guard last season, is now going to move to center. The Packers had amongst the weakest starting center spots this past season and the team is optimistic that Jenkins can resolve the issue. Banks as a former second rounder has been a solid starter at guard for most of his NFL career. Elgton Jenkins is a high-level player but has typically played guard throughout his career and it remains to be seen how effective he will be at center. The improvements that the Packers are hoping to see from their offensive line is also correlated to the potential improvement of some young players. Rasheed Walker at the starting left tackle spot has played two full seasons thus far in the NFL and showed improvements from year 1 in 2023 to year 2 in 2024. If he can continue to improve it would bode Green Bay well at the starting left tackle spot. Starting right guard Sean Rhyan was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2022 NFL Draft but did not play at all as a rookie and did not play much in year 2 in 2023. His first season playing in an extended portion of snaps was this past season in 2024 where he had his struggles but still produced at a respectable rate. As a former high draft pick who has shown he is capable, he will be a potential breakout candidate on the Packers’ offensive front next season. As 2025 will be his second full season taking extended snaps if he can stay healthy. A similar story of young players with promise who could break out continues to persist in the reserve unit of Green Bay’s offensive line. 2025 second round pick Anthony Belton and 2024 first round pick Jordan Morgan in particular could both provide Green Bay with some strong options off the bench. With some of the concerns that the Packers have on their starting offensive front, perhaps either one of those players could eventually transition to a starting role next season. While either or both of those players could provide Green Bay with strong reserve offensive line options as well.
The Packers had an average to perhaps a slightly above average caliber offensive line this past 2024 season. Headed into next season, with the addition of Banks and the potential improvement of Rhyan at the starting guard spots, along with a few young high draft picks perhaps breaking out, Green Bay could really improve on the offensive front next season. However, the young high draft picks coming into their own is far from a guarantee and Banks has proven to be nothing more than just a solid but not a spectacular starter thus far. Rasheed Walker at the starting left tackle position is currently a liability and as of now projects to be one of the weaker starting left tackles in the NFL. Perhaps 2024 first rounder Jordan Morgan or 2025 second rounder Anthony Belton could perhaps take his spot at that position eventually. Green Bay could improve on the offensive front next season and be a top 10 caliber unit but I would be surprised if they were a domineering offensive line. The Packers on the offensive front next season will in all likelihood be a slightly above average to an above average unit but likely not a well above average to a domineering unit. I have conducted a similar analysis of the Green Bay skill position players in 2024 and headed into 2025 as well.
2024 Green Bay Packers Skill Position Players
Wide Receivers
WR – Jayden Reed – (55/110) offense grade in 2024 over 683 snaps, B-
WR – Romeo Doubs – (56/110) offense grade in 2024 over 658 snaps, C to C+
WR – Dontayvion Wicks – (69/110) offense grade in 2024 over 586 snaps, C+ to B-
WR – Christian Watson – (56/110) offense grade in 2024 over 554 snaps, C+ to B-
WR – Bo Melton – (83/110) offense grade in 2024 over 251 snaps, C+ to B-
WR – Malik Heath – (74/110) offense grade in 2024 over 164 snaps, C
Tight Ends
TE – Tucker Kraft – (20/45) offense grade in 2024 over 923 snaps, C+
TE – Ben Sims – (42/45) offense grade in 2024 over 224 snaps, C-
TE – Luke Musgrave – (45/45) offense grade in 2024 over 145 snaps, C to C+
TE – John FitzPatrick – 2 career receptions
Running Backs
HB – Josh Jacobs – (3/58) offense grade in 2024 over 676 snaps, A-
HB – Emanuel Wilson – (9/57) offense grade in 2024 over 263 snaps, B+ to A-
HB – Chris Brooks – (38/57) offense grade in 2024 over 183 snaps, B to B-
HB – MarShawn Lloyd – D+ so far as 2024 3rd round pick
As you can see from the above the Packers outside of their running back unit left much to be desired from a skill position standpoint in 2024. The running back unit was exceptional and was in the definitive discussion for being the best overall running back unit in the NFL. However, the wide receiver unit and the tight end unit was comprised of mostly just average to mediocre caliber NFL players, and high draft picks who have yet to come into their own. Jayden Reed as a former second round pick had a very strong rookie season in 2023 but failed to build upon it in 2024. Based upon his rookie season and his high draft selection, Reed was in line to become one of the premier wide outs in the NFL for years to come. He, however, regressed in year 2 which was this past season despite still producing at a respectable rate. A similar story can be said about wide out Dontayvion Wicks who as a fifth-round pick in 2023 had one of the better rookie wide out seasons in recent memory. Wicks just like Reed also regressed in year two in the NFL despite still producing at a decent rate. The same narrative of wide receivers who played very well as rookies but who were unable to build off strong rookie campaigns continues to persist with both Christian Watson and Bo Melton. I would venture to say that Jordan Love having a bit of a sophomore slump type of season contributed to his receivers having sophomore slump seasons across the board as well. If Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Bo Melton, and Dontayvion Wicks can all build off their successful rookie seasons while moving past sophomore slumps, it would bode the Packers well. At tight end a similar narrative of underwhelming play but still talented players persisted in the unit. 2023 third round pick Tucker Kraft has been solid but not spectacular thus far in the NFL. While 2023 second round pick Luke Musgrave has looked decent thus far in the NFL but has struggled to stay on the field due to injury. Those two players will be in line to break out for the team at tight end next season given their solid play at times and their high draft selections. The projected 2025 skill position player lineup for the Packers can be found below.

Headed into next season the improvements that the Packers are hoping to see from a receiving core standpoint will primarily stem from the improvement of young players. As stated previously, the improvement that some of the young players are hoping to see is directly correlated to QB Jordan Love. In addition to hoping that the likes of several aforementioned players in the receiving core who have potential can come into their own, Green Bay has also added some players to their receiving core this offseason. They have drafted wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft who was one of the top wide out prospects entering the draft. They also drafted another wide receiver relatively high in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft as well in Savion Williams. Finally, they have added former second round pick wide receiver Mecole Hardman to the mix as well. Hardman has not quite lived up to expectations thus far in the NFL but is still amongst the league’s fastest players and has played at a respectable rate throughout his career. The team has not made any additions at tight end however and are hoping that Musgrave and Kraft can improve to bolster the unit. At running back, the Packers project to field one of the premier running back rooms as they did last season. They can expect their running back room to improve even further as 2024 third round pick MarShawn Lloyd who had a disappointing rookie season will go into year two.
In the 2024 season, the Packers saw their skill position players produce at a below average level in totality. The running backs were exceptional but the wide receiver unit and the tight end unit produced at amongst the weakest levels in the NFL. The subpar production from the receiving core was primarily due to young players not coming into their own as of yet. If several of the aforementioned young players at wide receiver and tight end start to blossom into their full potential. Green Bay could have a very strong wide receiver and tight end unit headed into next season. One that is likely not elite, but Green Bay certainly has what it takes to be above average to well above average in terms of tight ends and wide receivers. However, there is still so much uncertainty with Green Bay’s combination of wide receivers and tight ends, that it could be top 10, but if young players do not improve, it could also be bottom 10 in the NFL next season. The success that Green Bay sees from their skill position grouping next season will be directly correlated to young players in the receiving core improving. The running back unit for Green Bay will be elite next season barring major injuries. If the Packers wide outs and tight ends play to near their full potential, the grouping of skill position players for Green Bay could be borderline elite. If the young wide outs and tight ends fail to improve, the skill position grouping for the Packers could end up being just average to less than average in totality as it was in 2024.
Overall, the Packers were a very good bordering on a great offensive team during the 2024 season. Ranking in the top eight in terms of points accumulated, yards accumulated, and overall offense grade according to Pro Football Focus. However, they did not rank higher than five in any of those categories and ranked number eight in two of those categories. They were a top 5-10 offense last season that was very good but not great. If Green Bay wants to become a legitimate Super Bowl contender next season, they will likely need to take the step from being a top 5-10 very good offense to becoming a great definitive top 5 offense. In order for that happen they will need to see improvements from young players on the offensive line and especially in the receiving core. I think of Jordan Love as a tier 2 caliber QB who is a doppelganger of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen but not quite as good. I, however, do think that Love has what it takes to transition to being a tier 1 caliber QB at some point in his career. If he were to do that starting next season with perhaps more support around him, maybe Green Bay can take the leap to being a truly great offensive team in 2025. Head coach Matt Lafleur is a very smart offensive minded head coach but not Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan in that regard. I view Jordan Love as a tier 2 caliber QB as of now and Matt Lafleur as a tier 2 caliber offensive minded head coach as of now. If either or both can prove to be closer to tier 1’s in that regard starting next season, perhaps Green Bay can take the next step offensively in 2025.
