The Ravens led by Lamar Jackson have likely the most talented QB in the NFL if not ever under center and the offense will be in good hands and likely elite regardless of the players and coaching staff he is surrounded by. However, the Ravens as of now have very questionable offensive personnel, a rookie offensive coordinator, and a rookie defensive minded head coach. I have analyzed the offensive line of the team in detail in a previous piece and here I will go into detail assessing the skill position grouping of the team.
Starting with the running back unit of the team, Baltimore is led by future hall of fame veteran Derrick Henry. Henry is arguably one of the top backs in the sport today but questions about whether or not he is still in his prime certainly are being asked. Henry had a relative down year in 2025 where he still rushed for almost 1600 yards on over 5.0 yards an attempt which is still borderline historic. One could certainly argue that Henry is still in his prime, but he is certainly at the end of it or at least nearing the end of it. As Henry saw a slight drop off last season and will play next season at 32 years old and will turn 33 in the tail end of the season and heading into the playoffs. However, Henry only saw a slight drop off last season if that and perhaps with a healthier Lamar Jackson and a smart new young offensive coordinator, perhaps Henry can have a prime caliber season next year. The likely worst-case scenario is that the Ravens have a well above average player at running back and the best-case scenario is that they have a player who is in the discussion for being the best overall back in the sport.
However, the Ravens do lack depth behind Henry at the running back spot as Baltimore lacks a high-end backup although having a few capable ones. Justice Hill is currently 2nd on the depth chart behind Henry and is solid but not spectacular and is likely better suited as a #3 back. Hill, in six seasons in the NFL has graded above average in terms of an overall offense grade according to Pro Football Focus only once, although being borderline elite in that year. Outside of that, Hill has failed to log an overall offense grade, a run grade, or a receiving grade that was above average in even once instance. 2024 5th rounder Rasheen Ali, who has looked well below average in very limited NFL action, and 2026 5th rounder Adam Randall round out the depth chart for the Ravens at running back.
At wide receiver the Ravens have one of the weaker units in the NFL as it often has been in the Lamar Jackson era. Former first rounder Zay Flower is currently listed as the WR1 on the depth chart for the Ravens. Flowers in three seasons in the NFL has graded in the well above average range among his wide receiver contemporaries with regularity. Flowers has logged over 1000 yards and over 14.0 yards per receptions for two straight seasons now which are the only two outside of his rookie campaign. Flowers has produced at a borderline elite level in the only two seasons outside of his rookie year, but I still have my questions. Flowers is very good, but I do not feel as if he is a great wide out who is a true undisputed WR1 with a big frame such as Jamarr Chase, Nico Collins, or AJ Brown. There is an argument to be made that Flowers is not even a true #1 wide out but rather a high end #2 wide out. However, Flowers looked borderline elite in his first full season outside of his rookie campaign in 2024 and then maintained that level of play in 2025. However, the Ravens were not in ideal circumstances offensively in 2025 because of Lamar Jackson’s health or lack thereof and perhaps Flowers was not able to take the next step as a result. Now that Lamar Jackson hopefully stays healthier in 2025, perhaps Flowers can take the next step from being a B+ caliber #2 wide out who performs at a borderline elite level to now being a true #1 wide out who performs at an A level.
Currently listed as the WR2 on the roster is former first rounder Rashod Bateman who has underwhelmed in the NFL thus far. Bateman despite being drafted in the first round has never once graded above average among players at his position. However, he has still shown some capabilities in regards to being a deep threat and grading in the middle of the pack among players at his position one season as well. But as of now Bateman remains one of the weakest WR2s in the NFL today and could certainly fall down the Ravens’ depth chart as a result. However, he was still taken in the first round for a reason and has still shown some capabilities over the years. As Bateman struggled to stay on the field in years 1 and 2 in the NFL with then 2023 being his essential rookie season. In 2023, he produced at a below average rate but then was solid in 2024 which was essentially his first true season where we could get a good idea of the caliber of player he was. Bateman was then supposed to breakout in 2025 but regressed badly as he struggled with injuries again and the Ravens had a banged-up QB spot in addition to it. If Bateman can stay healthy with now Lamar Jackson hopefully staying healthy as well, perhaps this could be the season where Bateman breaks out and lives up to his high draft billing.
Devontez Walker is currently listed as the third wide receiver on the Ravens’ depth chart and is a very promising player. Walker, the 2024 4th rounder, in 14 career games has logged seven receptions on a remarkable over 20 yards a reception while being graded above average in 2025. However, it is still a very small sample size of strong production, but he remains a viable wide receiver option for Baltimore going forward.
From a depth standpoint at wide receiver the Ravens have a few notable names that could provide the team with some strong depth and/or step up for the team into a starting role given the lack of proven players outside of Flowers. The two players I am alluding to in this regard are the players that Baltimore drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. Baltimore drafted Jakobi Lane in the third round of the 2026 draft and Elijah Sarratt in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
At tight end Baltimore is led by potential future hall of fame veteran Mark Andrews who is coming off a career worst year and is potentially now declining entering his 30s. Andrews graded in the below average range among players at his position during the 2025 season which was the first season he graded anywhere outside of the top six in terms of an overall offense grade according to Pro Football Focus. Andrews saw a huge drop off in 2025 after being consistently elite in every season of his career prior to that. However, perhaps that was an aberration as although Andrews will be turning 31 next season he should still be in or near his prime as a tight end. Perhaps Lamar Jackson not being able to stay healthy at QB in 2025 was also a large contributing factor to Andrews’ decline and Andrews can return to his typical strong form with Jackson healthier at QB.
The reserve tight end unit is a big question mark for the Ravens heading into next season as Baltimore had perhaps the premier #2 tight end in the NFL for the past several years in Isaiah Likely who left the team to pursue a starting role elsewhere. The team currently lacks depth at the position behind the aging Andrews as the likes of Durham Smythe who had one strong season, but who has been consistently below average otherwise is second on the depth chart. While the Ravens’ 2026 4th and 5th round draft picks occupy the third and fourth spots on the Ravens’ tight end depth chart.
Overall, I think the Ravens are solid from a skill position player standpoint. They have one of the best running backs in the NFL in Derrick Henry, if 2025 was an aberration then they have one of the best tight ends in the NFL in Mark Andrews, they have a very good wide receiver in Zay Flowers as well. While also having 2-3 other very talented players at wide out who could be a solid WR2 to Flowers in the unit. The team lacks depth at running back and tight end although #2 back Justice Hill is capable and #2 tight end Durham Smythe is capable as well. A breakdown of the Ravens’ skill position grouping can be found below.
